THE HOST’S CHALLENGE

A karaoke night keeps changing.

At the booth, a host has more to handle than a list of songs. People join during the show, request multiple performances, change their selection, or need to move a song to a later round. A singer may remove a song by accident and want to add it again.

Brad’s live-show feedback focused on those practical moments: keep the rotation fair, make song selection easy on a phone, and give the host enough information to run the night.

LESSON 01 / FAIR TURNS

Multiple songs still need separate rounds.

During a show, Brad noticed one singer had two songs in the first round and moved the second song manually. That experience prompted work on how StageVotes assigns multiple performances to rounds.

The lesson was concrete: a song list is not the same as a singer rotation. The host needs clear round placement and a way to adjust it when circumstances change.

StageVotes now gives singers earlier/later controls for their queued songs during a show, with host controls for managing the rotation.

LESSON 02 / THE PHONE EXPERIENCE

Put choosing a song first.

Brad wanted guest singers to see the signup and song-selection steps before the invitation to create a profile. He also asked for search to be more prominent than optional duet and host-note fields.

Those requests shaped a singer page centered on finding a song and joining the queue. Optional notes let singers communicate key-change or arrangement requests, and optional text alerts give consenting singers another way to know when their turn is close.

Another live-show issue—a removed song still appearing unavailable—led to changes allowing removed selections to be added again.

LESSON 03 / KEEP THE HOST IN CONTROL

Connect the queue to playback, with a manual fallback.

Brad wanted to start songs from StageVotes instead of switching to KaraFun for each performance. That led to integrated playback controls alongside the singer queue.

Connection problems also reinforced the importance of a fallback. StageVotes can continue managing the singer rotation while the host operates KaraFun manually and restores the connection.

LESSON 04 / PLAN THE REST OF THE NIGHT

Know how much music is still waiting.

Queue timing estimates help a host decide when to pause additional songs or close signups. Brad also asked for Host IQ to watch for possible queue issues and offer a fix the host could review.

The resulting tools combine live queue checks with optional AI explanations and show questions. Estimates support the host’s judgment; they do not guarantee that every queued song will fit before closing.
